Greetings,

I recently noticed something strange with my custom built machine - all of my RAM is not usable according to system. I have 7.00GB installed, however it says only 5.00GB is usable.

First of all, I know 7.00GB is an odd amount to have installed. However, I had a spare 1GB stick laying around so I thought why not make use of it. Second of all, yes, this is a 64-bit installation of Windows 8.1 Pro. Lastly, BIOS detects all 7.00GB of RAM. If I go into task manager, on the left side it says 5.00GB but in the top right it says 7.00GB other.

Any ideas how to get this all to work?

Thanks!

Try removing that 1GB stick and see what you get. Mixing RAM provides weird results, and it sometimes depends on the slot the RAM sticks are in as well. The BIOS does see it, but that's doesn't mean it can all be accessed properly. It's more incompatibility issues that will let it detect but not fully be used.

7GB over 6GB isn't going to boost anything and might be causing your problems. Seems like the 1GB stick is knocking out a 2GB stick that you probably have in there.

Screenshot shows a AMD 6300, no integrated GPU and most AMD FX level boards don't have an onboard GPU.

if you have an igp then some of it, is bound to be hardware reserved. mixing different ram sticks in such way isnt advised.first of all you loose dual channel ability and forcing all sticks to match the one with the lower speed.as said remove 1gb. you may never be able to run then flawlessly!

I think integrated video is still enabled in my BIOS, I'll give disabling that a shot in a bit when this download I have running is finished. And correct, I have a discrete card - GTX 660ti.

If that doesn't change anything I'll take out the odd 1GB stick and see what happens. Thanks for the input so far, I'll post results in a bit.
