what if I do that? Will it be a huge deal using the internet and playing games?

why? because its cheaper to buy 1 stick 4gb, than 2 sticks 2gb ...
a thing to laugh about, but kind of a poor country here, and its not for me.

More about : stick 4gb dual channel

1 stick does not work in dual channel, it will run in single channel. That's slower, but it doesn't matter for internet browsing. It will affect some games, but it's not going to make a huge difference.

1 stick of 4gb is just fine, and will only be a little slower, nothing noticable. also, it leaves you room to get a second 4gb stick :p

oh... so pretty much if I have double channel mobo and I plug 1 stick, it wont even work or boot? (is this true for quad channel having 1,2 or 3 sticks?)

oh... or do you mean that if the mobo is dual channel and I plug 1 stick, then it will be like single channel? (or pretty much 1 stick on any mobo will be single channel)

It will work, performance just won't be the same.

With 1 stick you can only have single channel. Dual channel requires at least 2 sticks. Quad channel requires 4, but will work in dual channel with 2 (and depending on the implementation may work in triple channel with 3).

well, some mobo's require dual or quad channel, and will not boot if only 1 stick. but most mobos are fine with 1 stick.
