So I have a asrock Z87 Extreme 4 mobo and the bios version is 2.3. The latest is 2.7. Everything works fine except for the video card (280x toxic)that has been under performing. Im getting 30 FPS on ultra in battlefield 3 with 4x msaa. Im averaging 60 FPS in AC4 and dipping to 20 when in fights.

I did a Unigine valley 1.0 bench and with High, no aa, 1080p, and got avg 81.6 FPS, then found a reviewer who got 92.9. So that's a 10 FPS difference.

The thing im wondering is if my older bios is making my graphics under perform or just that my graphics card is bad. I don't wanna flash the bios and have it ruin my system.

If the notes for the BIOS update don't include any improvements that would affect the PCIe system, I doubt that would make any difference. Try disabling some stuff running in the background when Windows starts. Check your tray to see how much is running you can do without. They all take CPU clock cycles and Windows resources. You might want to run CCleaner too.

Ive disabled most stuff. The things that are running are programs for my mouse and headset. I would think that 8GB is enough with a 3gb vram card.

I have the i7 4770k. Yeah thats why im wondering why my card is under performing.

Yup. Thats when i play games. Played crysis and it only went up to 77. 50% fan speed. I didnt do the bios update since i dont wanna brick the board. I havent checked if theres an update for my gfx card bios.

Im thinking about doing a clean install of all drivers and maybe windows 8
