I've just tried Overclocking my FX-6300 for the first time and have run into a couple of problems.

I tried going to 3.7GHz at first and encountered no problems, but went to 4GHz and saw that 4/6 workers on the program 'Prime95' stopped working with the error:illegam Sumout message. Any help?
Sorry if this is hard to understand, new to the whole thing

Solution
A prime95 error generally means the computer made a math error. This means the system is not stable. You may need just a hair more voltage.

Make sure you are keeping an eye on the temps.

Adding some cooling to the VRM area of the board is not a bad idea either.

How would I add the extra voltage? I have adjusted the Clock ratio in the BIOS (gigabyte software) but didn't know I had to adjust anything else.
The temps at the moment, while running only 3 workers is at about 40C so I don't think that is the problem due to the idle temp being 31C.
Thanks for letting me know the initial problem

There should be a CPU Voltage option either near the clock speed option you changed, or in the power section of your bios, but I dont know what board youre using so I cant say for sure. Usually with OCs I take control of the multiplier and FSB first, stress test and temp check. If it passes those I put the clocks up more, and so on until the PC wont start. If youre still stable, keep pumping it up until the PC wont start. Then up your voltages one step at a time until youre stable again. I could go into it more, with ram timings and voltages for RAM and NB/NB-cpu, but I have never had a 6300 and I dont want to give you any bad advice. :p

Got it, thanks, manage to increase the voltage by .100v which solved the problem. Now running at 4GHz with 1.3v. Thanks for the help. Also running at 26C at the moment but go to about 39 under stress.
