Hello everyone.

Last Saturday I was using my computer as usual when suddenly, it stopped! Everything froze, no mouse movement, no windows, no anything. I was pretty annoyed as I was about to start a tournament, but I decided to hold the power button to restart. However, instead of turning back on normally, the fans, lights, and components were given power, but the displays turned on, said no signal, then turned back off, computer still humming along normally. I thought it was a one time problem, so I held the power button to turn the computer off, and nothing happened, the fans kept spinning. I eventually flicked the power supply switch off, held the button for 30 seconds, then flicked it back on to try again. Same thing. I continued trying a few more times then gave up.

The next day I was still having the same problem, so I decided to search the web for answers. People that seemed to be having the same problem said that it could be one of two things. First, it was a small unknown glitch and could be fixed by a quick CMOS reset. Second, my CPU could be fried.

I opened up the case and used the CMOS jumper to reset, and I still had the same problem. I decided that my CPU could be fried, so I got out a spare old processor and popped it in. To my surprise, it worked! It started to boot up. However, I wanted a quick test so I did not bother to use my rather low supply of thermal paste to wire it up to cooling, so I quickly shut it down when I saw it turning on. Just to make sure, I switched between the two processors a few times, the old one always worked, and the current one did not. I decided I had fried my CPU and decided to invest in a new one.

I did a little research, and found the best AM3+ cpu for me would be the FX 8350, so I bought it on Amazon and had it shipped to me. I plopped it in, installed the liquid cooler, and after a few problems with not having the RAM in all the way, it worked! For about two days everything was fine. However, today I got home from work and turned on my monitors today to find that the computer had froze at around 2:23am the night before. I decided again it was probably a one time problem and force restarted, it turned back on normally, but after about an hour or two of use it froze again. After, that, I restarted again and again, it was freezing up quicker and quicker. I realized the problem could have been that I had more than one audio device enabled at the same time (had a problem with that before) however, that was not the case, and it kept crashing. In the end, it froze again, and I powered off again, however, this time I had an exact repeat of what happened last time, only with the FX 8350.

As of right now, I have not touched anything, I am really stumped. Any help would be awesome, thanks!

What does this mean? Is my ram done for? Or am I doing something else wrong.

Okay, today I have been doing a bunch of tests and I will report back my findings. I tried using only a single stick of RAM, and it turned on. I left it on doing nothing all day while at work, and came back to it still working. I decided it was stable, so I tried putting in a second stick. However, after a few hours it froze. I then took it out and tried with the same first one again, and it froze! I also found that whenever I tried to run the ram at its stock clock, the computer would not boot and say "Overclocking failed! Press f1 to fix" or something very near to it. It would only work at a lower clock, I think it was 1333mhz?

Any ideas?

One stick , get it running . Head for the BIOS and apply an XMP profile to run the RAM at 1333 Mhz [ or do that manually if you have to .

From there you should be able to get the rest of the RAM in and running stable .
If not then stick with 2 x 8 gig which should work with the 1333 Mhz profile

Your problem is the memory controller on the cpu is only rated at speed for two sticks of RAM , To run 4 its common to have to drop the speed back a little .
If you only run 16 gig that wont hinder performance in any way .

Unless you have a RAM disk , I guess

It runs at 1333Mhz automatically. Whenever I change the hardware configuration it says "overclocking failed!" it then automatically changes it to 1333mhz.

Usually, I can put one stick in and it runs for a little while before freezing. After it does, it will not turn back on until I change it to another config. (Sometimes it is different)

I thought xmp profiles where intel only? Anyways, I tried running one stick at 1333mhz last night. I ran one hd video on each of my screens to keep something going then left it on over night. When I woke up, it was till working. However, I started using it and about an hour in it froze.

Not sure what you mean by profiles, but I set the clock on one stick of ram to 1333mhz. It did not work.

More and more time goes by and I am without a good desktop PC. Do you have any other ideas?

Already tried a different ram stick. I am starting to think it could be the motherboard? What do you think? I found a really nice deal on an Intel 4770 and a nice motherboard. (Ill return the amd 8350)
