Why won't my microphone work?

I have this laptop and when I went to record something on Hypercam 3, the option to record audio from the microphone wasn't available. I went to Start > Control Panel > Sound > Recording but it didn't show my Microphone. It should always show since it's an internal microphone built into my laptop. But when I plugged in my headset that has a microphone, it didn't show either. I don't know what it could possibly be but i'll give you as much information about my laptop listed below.

Under your recording settings tab, right click anywhere within the devices window and ensure both, "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices" are checked off. That should show your device if it has been disabled by either, yourself un-intentionally, or any of that software you have installed. After which, you can simply right click the device and click the "enable" option in the resulting menu.
