AMD FX 8350 & MSI 970A-G46 (Made for each other ??)

Solution
That motherboard got a BIOS update 18 months ago to support the FX-8350 (and all Vishera CPU's) so I would expect any motherboard sold in a store to have the newer BIOS, otherwise it's a nightmare as you'd need a compatible CPU to flash the BIOS first.

Some companies like Asus have started to add the ability to flash the BIOS without a CPU on some boards.

*In case you don't have either part, I suggest you consider the i5-4570 Intel CPU instead which is about $10 more at pcpartpicker. There are several low-cost motherboards for 1150 that are reliable.

Another issue with the FX-8350 is that you need to overclock the CPU or else you may get a bottleneck (depending on the game and graphics card used). For example, the i5-4570 gets frame...

Another issue with the FX-8350 is that you need to overclock the CPU or else you may get a bottleneck (depending on the game and graphics card used). For example, the i5-4570 gets frame rates about 40% higher than the FX-8350 in Skyrim. Overclocking the FX-8350 helps a lot, but you then want a motherboard that can reliably do that which tends to cost more.

In my opinion, the best value for gaming if comparing to an FX-8350 is an i5-4570 (not overclockable) and quality 1150 motherboard (i.e. Asus/Gigabyte/Asrock with good reviews).

I'm hesitant to recommend MSI in general due to some quality issues. I'm rooting for them and some boards may be great, but on average they appear to have issues. I recommend ASUS usually, but even then I do research customer reviews.
