Hi all, I've had a high end Lenovo laptop for years and just replaced it with a custom built desktop with the hope that the extra speed will improve my RAW processing and photoshop workflow. Here's the system build:

i4770K
ASUS Gryphon Z87
Corsair H100i cooling system (corsair link not enabled - builder forgot and too late now :( )
Kingston 8GB PC3 12800 x 4 (32GB)
Nvidia 750ti overclocked
2 x 250GB Samsung SSD
2 x 4TB Seagate HDD
Bitfenix ProdigyM ATX Case

System is up and running and seems to be working great, but I've got no idea how to overclock it. I'm yet to find a video that describes how to do it in layman's terms. I'm a total newbie at this.

Can someone give me a step by step guide to a basic overclock on this system? I feel stupid having it sit there at 3.5 when it can run so much faster. As said I'm a newbie so assume zero knowledge except that I know how to open the Bios. :)

Thanks in advance,

Antony

just google for overclocking or search this forum and you will find many guides. first you should run a stress test like prime95 or occt and tell us your temps under load.

After that you can go into the bios and start by just raising the multiplyer a little one step at a time and run a stress test to check its stable and you should run the test for 30minutes each time, the time ppl think is good to test does change from person to person but i myself think 30min is long enough because most times it will give you a error withing 5 minutes.

after you have rised the multiplyer so much you can with it being stable. after you cant get it stable anymore by just raising multiplayer you should start to add voltage and you need to read much about this or you may kill your cpu.

you should always just rise your voltage by 0.05mv each time and then test stress test again.

and remember there is a limit on how much max safe temperature and voltage is im not sure about the intel right now but just google that or ask that here and someone will help you.

Hi Vampyiere6, lie I said I'm a newbie with no idea about this stuff, that's why I want a step by step for a basic overclock. Thanks for your answer but I've already looked for threads and found nothing basic enough. For example, what's a multiplier, how do I check temp, how do I change voltage? You've assumed a base level of knowledge I don't have.

ohh im sorry.

the multiplyer is for the cpu its like 18,18,5 etc multiplied by 200 that will give you the speed of your cpu.

The voltage you also rise in the bios and its normaly under tweaking or so.

There are alot of programms that can check the temperatures the bios will show that too, but the stress test programms like occt will tell you temperatures speed etc too.

Then there are programs like hwmonitor or so that is very populare that will show it.

You motherboard cd should have incuded some software that should be bale too show but there are so many to pick from.

the whole overclocking process i will let someone else with more experience then me answer.

but never use a overclocking software that will auto tune/overclock your pc because it will use much higer voltages and will most likley be unstable.
