My mobo is asus M5A88-M
and it shows a ECP printer port (LPT1), but I can't find a port for plugging my scanner (canon cano scan n640p ex )in to that(25 pin ).so I bought an usb to parallel port cable from here but I think it only works for printers not for scanners, since it didn't detected my scanner, as I was using canons software canocraft cs p 3.8 which I installed in the windows xp mode to check the scanner since canon doesn't provide windows 7 x64 driver(mine in 7 x64) so I used the xp mode. I think the software will only detect the parallel port, not sure
So my question
1.)any alternatives to connect the scanner.
2.)I am now planning to buy a pci to parallel port card from here(here). will it work or
3.)Is there any option to create plug point as there is a port in my mobo?

Please help , I can give addtional details if you need.
os : windows 7 x64
processor : amd phenom II x4

Your options are limited with old hardware designed for a 25-pin parallel port which no longer features on modern motherboards. As you've discovered, adapters can be "hit-and-miss" and often only partially work.

Your best option is to buy a new USB printer/scanner, but a parallel-port PCI card should work if you want to keep using your old scanner. You'll have to upgrade it one day though, so why not do it now to get out of the connectivity problem?
