The black edition of the AMD 7850k has arrived in New Zealand, for $50 less than the normal version. The black edition stated that it has an unlocked multiplier, so that's good for over clocking. But why is the BE version so much cheaper?

bullshit

"black edition" means the chip comes with an unlocked multiplier, that has nothing to do with the cooler
every boxed amd cpu comes with a cooler (notice "boxed", not tray cpus)

I guess it's cheaper because of a special offer or just luck imho

It does say boxed on the item title. Just seems odd that they (most NZ online retailers) are releasing the premium version of the CPU at a much lower price. Maybe i might need to pick one up now before they run out of stock

If you want one ... sure, enjoy ,-)

But pls don't expect too much from the stock cooler, they provide just enough cooling for stock settings and are really loud under full load, like a leaf blower.

If you plan to overclock or just want a better, much more quiet cooler take a look at the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. This cooler has already proofed itself to provide decent cooling with a much lower noise level and comes around 30 to 40 bucks. This is a really smart investement.

I agree with what your staying. I wont be using stock HSF. I already have a cooler master 212 for my main gaming rig. Will be using cooler SEIDON 120V water cooler. As can't fit 212 in the htpc I am building
