GA-F2A88XM-D3H Win7 RAID + AHCI Not detecting

I'm trying to install Win7 on a GA-F2A88XM-D3H MB, with 4x2TB drives in a RAID 10 config, 1xSSD in AHCI mode, and a Bluray drive.

When installing Win7, it asks for the drivers as expected, but it cannot find any hardware. I've tried the drivers that came with the CDROM (as per the MB manual) and I've also downloaded the latest drivers and tried them. Windows finds compatible drivers when I select the correct folder, but just can't find the hardware.

I've tried the 4xRAID drives in SATA0-3 with the SSD in 4, Blurau in 5, as well as RAID drives in SATA4-7, SSD in 0.

I've also tried only connecting the SSD drive to no avail.

I'm running out of ideas here and would really appreciate some help.

Note: The 4xRAID 10 drives are transferred from another system and the windows installer can read and browse through those drives... the issue seems to be with the SSD.

Also, all the drives are detected and listed in the MB setup menu.

Solution
If you are planning to use the SATA Controller in RAID mode, set it to RAID.
Just connect the SSD drive to the first SATA port, don't connect the RAID drives.
When installing Windows 7, load:
AMD RAID Driver (Preinstall driver)
Version 6.1.2.5
0.58 MB

Driver is available on motherboard support page

Hi,

I think you should download first this driver: Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H (rev. 3.0) AMD AHCI Preinstall Driver 1.2.1.337 for Windows 7..before doing the OS installation. That is what the Windows setup installation wizard ask for before it can detect your SSD. Good Luck

Yeah this is the driver I downloaded and when I try to use it it says "No new devices could be found".

Hi Calvin,

Thanks for the suggestion. Just the SSD connected to SATA port 0. I have tried this out and after I select the driver in the windows installation I get a blue screen crash. I tried the driver you suggested as well as the one that came on the CD. Both give the same error:

"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"

"rcraid.sys - Address 87E394CC base at 87E06000, DateStamp 52332c3`

Any ideas?

Yes.

- By default the BIOS is setup with SATA Type AHCI
- In this config, my Kingston SV300 is listed on SATA Port 0.
- From here I load the windows installer from USB and try to install the AHCI driver, but it says "No new devices could be found"

But I want to use RAID so the procedure I followed was: (with only the SSD connected to SATA port 0)
- Setting the OnChip SATA type to RAID
- Then I enter the RAID config and initialise the SSD disk and create a RAID array of type volume with Read/Write caching mode.
- From here I load the windows installer from USB and try to install the RAID driver, but it says "No new devices could be found"

I then tried setting SATA ports 4-7 to IDE while retaining RAID on SATA ports 0-3. (i first deleted the SSD from the RAID array), and connected the SSD to SATA port 4 and it is detected and listed in BIOS. Windows again asks for drivers can can't find any devices.

I also tried setting the OnChip SATA type to Legacy IDE, again with only the SSD connected. Windows asks for drivers again.

Ok I finally got this to work with RAID.

Believe it or not, the problem was that I was running the Win installation from a USB drive connected to a USB3 port. Moving it to a USB2 port resolved the issue.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll go bang my head against my desk a few times to see if I can give myself a headache to match the one I just had :)
