I'm considering upgrading to an msi gtx 760 Twin Frozr to go in my desktop, so I was wondering if a Corsair cx 500w psu would have a high enough wattage for my system? I have an i7 3770 at stock clock speeds and 16gb ram.

Nvidia recommends a 500w PSU for that card, and Corsair is one of the better brands. You should be good to go.

Yes, it's plenty. Total system power use during gaming will probably be in the ~200W range.

I always favour having plenty of headroom, for reliability and efficiency, so would suggest 500-600W+ for a new PSU for your system and don't buy a cheap one. They tend not to produce the advertised output and are often unreliable and short-lived.

It looks OK, but you're safer with a 600w PSU.

Exactly, more headroom provided and no chance of components in the system being underpowered.

It's definitely plenty. Your whole computer will never pull more than 250w under load, and that's right in the efficiency sweet spot for a decent 500w PSU.

Well the 500watt is already elevated but for future upgrades I recommend this XFX over budget 600watt units, http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550sxxb...
