Hi All,

I'm totally stumped on what is causing my freeze up issues and I was hoping perhaps someone here may be able to steer me in the right direction.

Originally my computer would lockup in windows randomly freezing, sometimes rebooting. The problem got worse when the computer would reboot and then get stuck in a boot loop requiring hard boot. I took the computer in for service and the tech said RMA my motherboard. I did that and received a replacement however the issue persisted. Again the tech said the board was the problem so I bought a brand new board from a different company all together and low and behold the issue persists. Now its much worse, I decided to wipe the hard drive completely and do a fresh install of Windows and the install cannot complete because of freezes and reboots.

I've tested both hard drives and they have come back fine. To double check the hard drives I disconnected the SSD and tried just the 7200 Seagate and it froze, then I disconnected the Seagate and tried just the SSD and it froze. Ive run 10 passes of Memtest 86 on my RAM and there were no errors. What else could it be? Power supply? CPU? Is there anyway to test these components? Any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.

System:
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing
MSI Z77A-GD65 ATX LGA1155
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Crucial M4 128GB 2.5" SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB
Zalman Z9 Plus ATX Mid Tower
XFX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V
Samsung SH-222BB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer

Thank you, Jay

Temperatures in the BIOS are sitting around 40 degrees C for the CPU. Not sure my GPU temperatures. How can I test that?

Reset your CMOS by pulling out the CMOS battery on the motherboard ( it is roughly the size of a quarter) Leave it out for 3 mins before putting it back in. Try to reinstall Windows. How long you waited when the window installation freezes? Wait 15 mins and see if it is still frozen.
If it still freezes, try to download Windows onto a USB and install from a USB to make sure that the CD isn't broken.

Thanks Suztera, but what will pulling the CMOS battery do? This is a brand new motherboard that I just bought yesterday.

Update: managed to get Windows to finish installing but the computer freezes after about 2 mins of being loaded.
