That is up to you to decide, the Hero will allow for max OC and is extremely tweak able platform. The other boards will as well OC but maybe not as far. Here is another Asus board that is in between the other two listed before http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-z87plus

That is called personal preference! Nothing wrong with the board though just as good as similar class Z87 boards from Asus, Gigabyte and Asrock!

You say that, but the Hero is a considerable amount more than the alternatives. What exactly makes the Hero better than something like the Gigabyte GA-z87x-ud4h? Especially when the actual changes in fps will be negligible.

I went through 20 Haswell client builds before deciding on the Hero for my build (in sig), and overall of the big 3 Asus seems to have the best handle on the 1150, I place the Rock as #2 and GB in 3rd, the rest .... I simply don't build on

From the reviews you can see those MB benchmark scores, they don't have big difference. I don't know how many person can notice the different in real world usage. Just like rolli59 said "That is personal preference!" It depends on what you want to play with, benchmark? games? or play more $$.
