Alright so i got my new case psu and 212 evo.... my auto tune on my mobo has me at 4.7ghz, i'm not comfortable with that, i was thinking like 4.2 would be safe? Any help is appreciated

Case:ZALMAN Z9
CPU: I5-4670k
GPU: 560ti
PSU: CORSAIR 750W CXMOD
MOBO: Gigabyte z87-hd3

Speed doesn't matter, its voltage. Auto overclocking usually sets voltage way to high to compensate, so even if you get a pretty bad overclocking chip, it won't crash on you, just cause more heat, noise and possible shorten the life of the component depending on voltage.

The 2 main things to look for when overclocking are CPU voltage and temperature. Dont go over 1.3volts with that CPU or you risk damage to the CPU, you can overclock as high as the CPU and cooler will allow. Stress test the CPU and monitor the temps. I personally dont go over 72*c max as higher temps can reduce the life of the CPU (CPU's vary, see specs for yours). As for automated overclocks, I stay clear of those and do it manually via bios. You have a lot more control and can get a better overclock with lower voltages.

I have been trying to determine it, i have been at the 4.0 pretty steady... what do you guys use to stress test... i know there are many, but, i'm going to have to manually do it in my bios settings now, my auto tuning has my core voltage at 1.150v, multiplier at x40 bus speed at 99.76.... that is from cpu-z
