I have an fx-6300 and a gtx 760 MSI twin frozr edition. Is it worth it to overclock my GPU or won't I get any extra performance due to the bottleneck of the fx-6300?

Solution
A FX-6300 doesn't bottleneck an R9 290. I think you are safe with a GTX 760.

The FX-6300 really wakes up when clocked around 4.5-4.7Ghz.

No, you shouldn't have a bottleneck issue. The FX-6300 is a pretty high-performance CPU. Of course, overclocking will get you better performance, but it's risky, and it will void your warranty. You won't need to overclock unless you want to.

My i5-4670K bottlenecks my GTX 770 from time to time. Of course the 6300 will bottleneck in certain situations!

This is way too difficult a question to give a yes or no answer to. You have to let us know what games you plan on playing. Arma 3 Multiplayer? Serious bottleneck. Crysis 3 Singleplayer? Not so much.

All I can say is that you most likely won't see a bottleneck at 1080p in singleplayer games, but some bottlenecks in intense multiplayer games like Arma 2 or 3.

If it helps, you won't get a bottleneck in BF4 at 1080p.

Generally speaking: You will be fine.

I mainly play games like Civilization 5, League of Legends, First Person Shooters, RPG's, etc. The performance in these games at the moment are just fine, but in games like metro last light, tomb raider and crysis 3 I was getting a bit under average performance for my card compared to what other people were getting. I thought it might've been caused by a bottleneck, but it maybe it was something else.

What FPS are you getting?

metro last light would drop to 30 fps in certain areas, but other wise stayed above 40 fps. Tomb raider's benchmark showed 51-53 fps average for high/ultra settings, but I saw that some people were getting an average of 60+ with my GPU. And Crisis 3's average fps was about 3-6 fps lower than other benchmarks that I saw. Nothing too bad (definitely still playable) but a bit weird even so.
