does it need an expensive motherboard? as of now I have the ASUS P8H61-M LX3 PLUS motherboard, I'm on a 6770 and want to go to 6950, will it support the card? and oh btw, I have a 500w PSU

The 6950 will work perfectly well on that mobo. You have enough power for it as well.
All the card needs is a PCIE 16x Version 2.0 and thats exactly what you have on that board.
