How can I install Mac OS X 10.9 onto an external HDD and run on a windows machine?
I have 10.9 as a VM so am able to do things on Mac. I would like to run OS X by going into the boot menu at startup and use it from the external HDD. I have other OS's on this HDD (although they have their own separate partitions).

More about : install mac external hdd run windows machine

Building a so called "hackintosh" is rarely an easy task. Windows supports the multitudes of different motherboards/CPUs/Chipsets/GPUs/wirelessnetwork/etc. through third part driver support. With OS X, there is no third party driver support. Your hardware either has to very closely match the configuration of an off the shelf Mac, or you need to rely on support from the OSX86 community. Even if you do manage to get OS X installed on your machine, the chances of being able to get everything to work (sound, sleep, hibernation, network, etc.) may be impossible.

Google "OSX86." Some of the first results should give you some insight into the process. Some of these websites also provide lists of known compatible/incompatible hardware with OS X.
