Hi all, I was planning to add a graphics card to my pc however it seems hp really screwed me over with their damn bios lol. So now my graphics card will need a new home in a pc I plan to build. I am not very up to date with whats good out there and I don't wanna miss something. I know a little about building pc's so I thought id give it a go.

So far the parts I bought which I intended to use in my old pc are my graphics card

Asus GTX 770 Nvidia GeForce DirectCU II OC 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card (PCI Express 3.0, HDMI, DVI-I, DVI-D, Display Port, 256 Bit, 3D Vision Ready, GPU B

And my power supply

Corsair CP-9020078-UK Builder Series 750W CS750M ATX/EPS Semi-Modular 80 Plus Gold Power Supply Unit.

I would really appreciate help on this as I am unsure on how to know if things are compatible with others, I only know how to build. I'm not very knowledgable when it comes to the parts and how good they are. I'm will to build a whole new pc around these two pieces including fans and case. I'm also willing to spend around £600-800 on the remaining pieces however the lower the better, ( but hopefully not sacrificing quality)

Yeah, any of the power supplies should fit into any of the cases since they are all ATX power supplies and ATX cases. The Source 210 is definitely more of a tight fit than the fractal r4. This one is a bit more roomy than the Fractal r4

-Asus Z87-a mobo for OC also
-CM 212 EVO for OC (these parts can be switched out to save about 50-70 GBP if you do not plan to OC)
-1 TB HDD (you could probably use the HDD in your current system too, depending on what it is).
-Case - The NZXT source elite is a decent budget case, there are a ton of options and some really good/quiet cases out there to chose from. Corsair, Cooler Master, NZXT, and Fractal Design are my go to brands for cases.
-Threw the OS and dvd drive in there in case you need them, you could probably grab the dvd drive from you old one too.

- SSD - if you want faster boot up times/ load times for applications, a Solid State Drive would be a sweet addition but is not necessary

Hi, thank you very much for your response, I would like to ask some more questions if u don't mind. How easily upgradable would this setup be. Also how can u tell that this is all compatible or are all recent hardware compatible with each other? Lastly how would u rank this system now, is it very high spec, high, medium etc ( quality wise on whats out there)

-i7-4770k - more powerful than the i5 but most games will not show a difference. Works great for rendering/video editing. Games in the future may utilize this more, if you got extra GBP this may be a "future proofing" option
-Asus Maxumus hero - really good mobo with great sound quality
-16 GB ram - most games do not utilize more than 8 gb yet, but they may in the future
-120 gb SSD - for your operating system, browsers, and a few games to load up faster
- Case - Fractal design r4 is a pretty quiet case, has really good reviews

All of the parts are interchangeable between the 2 builds

Hi, don't you think that case might be a bit on the small side? Also what do u think of the graphics card and power supply I have aleady chosen.

The system would be pretty easy to upgrade. The cpu slot on the motherboard is probably going to be supported for a few years but either the i5 or i7 would probably not need to be changed in that time, they are very powerful. Everything in this build is from the most recent generation, however there are supposed to be new CPUs coming out later this year but no date/price/performance is know at this time.

The first build i posted would be mid-high, the second would be high end for sure (maybe a bit overkill).

Think I'll go with overkill lol, only thing I'm not sure about on the list is the ssd, not sure what it is or how to install it. Also do you know if the motherboard or cpu comes with the thermal paste.

The gtx 770 is a great card, no problems there. The power supply is ok, I am not a fan of the Corsair cx series since they use chinese capacitors instead of japanese but it should be alright for 1 card. If you do plan to sli then I am not sure I would trust it at high loads, however a lot of people have them and have no problems, it is just that they are more likely to fail at high loads (like SLI) than some other quality PSUs. Also I prefer 800-850w for SLI but that is just me being extra careful.

Overall the cx is ok, just not what I would recommend.

This list gives a good idea of PSU quality, You typically want a tier 1, 2a, or 2b. The cx is a tier 3.

The cpu cooler will come with thermal paste, but it is just enough for the cooler. if you think you might mess up, then grab some extra thermal paste.

The SSD is a hard drive with super fast read and write speeds and no mechanical parts (like a flash drive). The SSD will not help you get better FPS in games but it would make starting up your computer faster, opening internet browsers and applications that are stored on the SSD would open faster as well. It is pretty cool and makes your computer experience overall faster.

For the Power supplies here are 2 options:

Power Supply: XFX 850W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply (£86.22 @ Scan.co.uk)
Total: £86.22

Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£114.36 @ Amazon UK)

The xfx pro gold is a bit better quality (from great to best) and gold rated which means it would save you a bit on your power bill. Either one is a great choice for SLI 770 in the future.

If you only wanted to stick with the single gtx 770:

Thanks you very much for all your help, if I go with one of those power supplies is the other cases a must too or is the smaller case still viable. Either way thanks for all advice, I will definitely be using most of the suggestions.
