How to remove existing 80 mm case fan

Hi guys

I have an XClio Godspeed Two with 2x80 mm case fans sucking air out of the case and out through the top. The fans run pretty much 24x7 and one of them recently failed. So I have bought 2x replacement fans (Gelid Silent 8).

My question is how do I remove the existing fans? They appear to be attached to the case with some kind of bolt that I cannot just unscrew, the only solution appears to be to pry them off with a screwdriver or similar but I am concerned that such an agricultural process might damage the case in such a way that I can no longer replace the fans.

Any advice much appreciated.

Athlon II X3 runs at 30 C when idle, NVidia Geforce 460 runs at 46 C while idle. Haven't measured them under load, but before I replaced the fans the CPU was peaking at 70 C shortly before system shut down. Everything seems much more stable now.

The retaining screws have a groove in the side rather than the top (a bit like a pie with a slice taken out). I don't think I have any suitable tools that I can use to remove them...

Do you mean I should remove the top panel from the case (with the power buttons & fan controller) and see if the fans are attached from under there?

Ok, I'm going to try sharing images from my dropbox account...

I think perhaps they are normal screws but have been fastened from the other side of the case (fastened from the outside...) What do you think?

p.s. how do I put pictures inline?

To embed images, put the tags (img) before the url and (/img) after the url. Replace the ('s with ['s. Your images won't work for some reason when doing this.

I haven't seen those screws before so listen to aldan.

OK so I removed the top panel (with the power switch , ports, fan speed controller etc.) and this was underneath:

Top of case

So the fans were screwed into place from above. I've removed the old fans & installed the new ones (attaching power to m/b) and all seems to be working well. Thanks for looking at this problem for me.
