Best processor that isn't overkill?

I'm building my first computer to start my career in the computer field. I want to buy a processor that is the best in it's class, but not overkill. For example, I dont want the "extreme" line of processors, just right under it. What is the best processor for gaming, Adobe CS, Audio/Video editing, and most importantly programming?

I was looking at the i7-4930k. Is that the best processor for what I'm looking to do? If not, what is? I'm starting my first build and I'm going ALL out. Building essentially the best PC I can put together.

What is the best line of Intel processors that I'm looking for? Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, or Haswell?

Also, are there any processors that are coming out in the near future that would be better that I should wait for?

It should be important to note that money is not an issue here. My budget is ~$3000. I could spend $1000 on a processor, but as I said before, it would be overkill.

There's always the AMD FX-8350. It has eight cores, and runs at 4GHz. I know that this is slower than Intel's 4GHz CPU's, but it's a great price. I do a little programming myself in C++, but I haven't had the chance to do any major compiling. I'm sure it compiles pretty fast, though!

you don't have to spend so much, you could spend right around 1000 for the entire build using a i7 4770k and be fine. Although if you want to spend 500 just on a cpu and more expensive 2011 platform motherboards go ahead.

You really don't need much to game maxed out on 1080p.

Wait for Haswell Refresh, then get the replacement CPU for Core i7-4770K (can't remember it's name) and a Z97 Chipset motherboard.
As for the latter, apparently then you should be able to replace your CPU later on when the more powerful Broadwell CPU type come out in 2015.
