I have an Asus G50v laptop, i purchased it from a friend, and it was great, untill a while back my computer crashed and windows disabled my graphics card. i looked up the error, and it was either the drivers or the card it self, and i tried re-installing the drivers multiple times so it was indeed the card. i went to remove the card and found that the thermal paste was rock hard. I wanted to know if it is possible that the card works, just the thermal paste on it caused this issue within the system. any solutions/fixes are appreciated

Well the video card may have overheated. Other than that, the thermal paste wouldn't have any other affect. Unless of course it was a conductive thermal paste used and it shorted something out. But It wouldn't be so if it hasn't been altered from the factory.
