So I tried 3 different brands and likely over 5 diffrernt cameras and every time there are no problems in device manager but for some reason all software will not detect it. It's weird too because ever usb device I plug in works fine except particularly webcams.

Have you tried installing the drivers that came with the webcams? Sometimes, when windows automatically installs the cam, it fails to recognize the special features that specific cam has. Try using the disks that came with the cams and see if that resolves the issue.

Okey, a couple more questions. First, which software have you used to test? For the Logitech webcam, have you tried using the included "quick capture" software? Does it not detect the cam either?

If it doesn't work, try un-installing the driver, plugging the cam into a new USB port and re-installing the driver.

Okey, lets try something under the Device Manager then.

Make sure the cam is connected to your PC and then, under the actions tab, select "scan for hardware changes." This is simply to ensure something did not FUBAR driver-wise. Then go under the imaging devices tab and look for your cam. Right click it and select properties. Under general, it should be saying "This device is working properly." If not, paste any error report you see into this thread.

Next, go to the driver tab. Try updating the driver as this sometimes will help.

----

Have you tried downloading the latest drivers from the Logitech website? There are sometimes revisions that will widen compatibility across different MOBO's and BIOS's.

Also, when was the last time you updated your BIOS? Often times, especially with more recent hardware, your BIOS may not be able to recognize it. If your BIOS is more than 2 versions behind on your manufacture's website, I would suggest updating it.

I hope one of these will help. I will try and do a bit more digging on the topic in the mean time.

Also, do you possibly have another computer you could test this on? If we could at least narrow down this either being a problem with your computer or with the camera itself, it could make things a bit easier.
