Hi
My computer is stuck at this screen http://imgur.com/U2uGwuW. The events leading to this were, my pc instantly shutdow a few days ago while loading a game DotA2, but restarted finely, skipping chkdsk. Next few days I noticed both my main and secondary hard drive were sluggish, opening folders in explorer slowly. So I decided to run a chkdsk but it rrequired a restart. It ran fine primary disc was clean in a matter of seconds, the secondary hdd nearly completing whatever step it was in 93% ish then it stopped at this very small txt file. So far its been 18 hours... I need my pc because its where I do my work and I have evrything important on it backedup in dropbox. The drive is like 250gb I don't mind losing it. Should I wait? This means I miss out on a days pay but im sure its the price of a new hdd. Thanks for any help it is much appreciated.

If you have backup everything I suggest you reinstalling your windows.
If you have your already installed windows product key then you need not to buy a new window Just download the version that is already installed on your pc.

Sorry maybe I was not clear, I apoligize. The secondary hdd is frozen at the startup chkdsk screen. So my question is should I just shut off my PC? The loss of my secondary hdd is minimal, im just wondering if its safe to turn off, without harming my pc with the exception of the secondary hdd. Thank you

Turn your pc off. Remove the second Hdd.
To disable automatic disk checking at Windows startup through registry, go to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

In the right hand pane, double click BootExecute.

The default value of the key is autocheck autochk *

* means every drive is checked for consistency. Just add /K:C at the end before *. /K switch will disable autocheck on C: drive at Windows startup. So the final value should look like this:

autocheck autochk /k:C *

If you want to add more drives, the key should look like this: (disabling C and D drives)

autocheck autochk /k:C /k: D * Note: there should be no space between k: D I left space because the site is considering this as a smiley.!!!!!!

Then shut down your pc properly and connect the second hdd that you removed and it should work fine.
