I bought a new computer a couple of months ago and i'm not realy a gamer anymore but at the moment i have some free time and i wanted to play assassins creed 4.

Google says the recommanded system req are:
CPU : Core i5-2400S 2.5GHz or Phenom II X4 940
GPU : GeForce GTX 470 or Radeon HD 5850 1024MB
RAM : 4GB

I have:
CPU : AMD FX-6300
GPU : Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 2GB OC
RAM : 8GB

But still when i try to play the game the game is still very laggy ( and i almost know for sure it's the GPU), and i dont know why.
When i look on youtube there are people playing the game without trouble with the same GPU.

I recently re-installed windows 8.1 and made sure everything was up to date.
But also that made no diffrence

I also try to overclock my CPU and GPU with Catalyst Control Center.
But also that didn't work, i did the following :
CPU : 3.5Mhz to 4.0Mhz
GPU : core clock 920Mhz to 1010Mhz ( dont know for sure if i can go higher but max is 1050 on the program. ) and the memory clock 1250 and it stay 1250. ( max on the progam is 1450. )
I had the idea it didn't even help a little.

I also had the same problem with a game called Metro Last Light and sometimes it showed some realy strange looking graphics.

I don't realy know what to do anymore.
I hope one of you can help me.

Also i have one big screen (101cm) and a small screen (38cm) on the side?
I haven't try it out without the small or big screen, but i think that isn't the problem.

What resolution are you playing at, what settings, and what are your frame rates? If you take a look at something like http://www.techspot.com/review/670-metro-last-light-performance/page3.html you will se the 7850 averages about 40FPS at 1680x1050, but drops to 33 at 1920x1200 and down to 22 at higher...

You've left out most of the important details about how you are running the game. One good test though is to run with the AA off and grab some frame rates and then crank the AA way up. If you notice that the AA makes your minimum frame rate drop in line with your max and average then likely it's you GPU causing the slowness and you just need to adjust your settings accordingly. If you notice that your minimum doesn't drop but your max and average drop pretty significantly then you know that times that are slow are probably not caused by your PU and something else (which likely points to CPU instead).

You said in Metro LL, you saw some "really strange looking graphics". That sounds like artifacts. That would indicate that you overclocked your GPU too much, so back down the settings, or try playing with default clock/memory speeds and see if the artifacts go away.

sorry, forgot to post my game settings.

1600x900 60Hz
environment quality - high
texture quality - high
anti-aliasing quality - FXAA
shadow quality - low
reflection quality - off
motion blur - on
ambient occlusion - SSAO
God Rays - low
volumetric fog - on
vsync - on

i dont know how to see the frame rates.
( i'm a little bit noob at this.)

i will try some settings out.

it warent realy artifacts i think but it where like veeeeeery low graphic flat one collored objects.
like for example a piece of ground that were totally low graphic flat and one collored.
and when i moved later on and looked back it was normall again.
dont realy know how to explain it, hope this say enough.

when i was playing metro i did no overclock.

when i play assassins creed, it is like 50c max, and i did a little overclock:
core clock 920Mhz to 1050Mhz
and the memory clock is still 1250.

it almost cant be, i don't use my computer alot and my computer is like a few months old.
i'm starting to think its not the GPU because when i play it on high settings it still plays good but off course lower settings play better.
but both have tham shocking lag in it.

it is not like it lags all the time but it shocks sometimes, especially when i move the camera much.

If it happens no matter what the settings are, that still sounds like a GPU issue to me.

You could try using Razer gamebooster, or whatever it's called. I've never tried it but it could help.
