Hello.

I'm setting up a new router and it's working fine with my wireless devices but not with my desktop computer via ethernet. It says that my Local Area Connection is unplugged but everything is plugged in as it should be. I've already talked with my ISP and they said the problem seems to be with my computer but they're not sure how to fix it. We tried looking at the network connection settings and few things through cmd but nothing worked. I was wondering if anyone here could help?

My operating system is Windows XP. The new router is a BT Home Hub 4. It worked fine with my old one which was a Home Hub 2, but I just can't seem to get it to work with my new one.

Thank you!

When you check the IP address of your desktop, do you have a 169.254.x.x address? If you have a 169.254.x.x address you are not connected to your router, and you need to confirm your cables are completely plugged in. Unplug them and plug them back in to confirm a proper seat of the cables. Also, your router should light up where your desktop is plugged into on the router (i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, whichever the desktop cable is plugged into). Also, the lights on the NIC port at the back of your computer will be lit, and are typically green lights, and should be blinking/flickering.

You Can Use E-lins H685 Router. It is so good!

Thanks for replying!

I can't get it to show an IP address, ipconfig just returns this:
"Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected"

I've tried unplugging and replugging the cable a few times, plugging the cable the opposite way, plugging it in each four of the ethernet ports on the router, and I've even tried a different cable but nothing worked.

My router nor computer have lights to indicate whether something's plugged in, so I can't tell.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I don't think that's available in my country unfortunately.
