New (Used?) Gaming Laptop on a Budget

Hey folks,

I've been spending a lot of my time on the road/at friends' houses and my gaming PC has slowly been collecting dust. With Wildstar coming out, I was hoping to fix up my old ASUS G51-VX RX-05, but I'm having all kinds of issues getting it to even run the original Borderlands on the low settings.

I've been looking at replacements, but honestly, they're all too expensive. The best option I found in a sub $1,000 price tag was the Lenovo Y500, but that's still $800 on sale.

I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations for budget gaming laptops? I don't need a huge screen, 15" will do. And I'm not concerned about battery life, I'm usually near a plug. I don't need 3D or anything crazy. I'd just like to be able to run most of my games on at least Medium and at a decent resolution.

Thanks in advance! :)

More about gaming laptop budget
  1. A gaming laptop is always more than a gaming desktop, maybe just go for the Y500.
  2. Check this out:

    15" x 14" x 4"

Since you'll always be near a plug whats the point in a laptop? Just grab a cheapo 720p widescreen for ~80 bucks and build one of these tiny guys. :)

If you decided this solution worked for you I would totally go over build options :)
  3. Here's one of the best laptops under that budget: Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p

    700$ after shipping.

Could choose different CPU and GPU given a preference to Nvidia/AMD.
