I usually go with a pretty decent graphics card and do a light cpu overclock with a good cooler.
so idk if I need to pay the extra 60$ on the 990 since I don't plan on sli. i have the phenom x 6 1100t now with the msi 890fxa gd70 and im very pleased. but im going to sell my laptop. and use that cash to help build a desktop for a future upgrade and when friends are hanging out we can both play or do whatever.
basically, is the 990 worth the extra money? Since I'm not trying to sli or push the cpu to the best clock i can get.

If you don't need SLI or extreme overclock then you don't need 990FX. I own an ASUS M5A97 Pro and I'm running my Phenom II 955 at 3.9 GHz. It's a pretty solid and cool motherboard.
