Hi I have a DELL Inspiron 546 PC (I have a i7 / GTX 760 gaming rig though)

here are dell specs:
Athlon X2 5400+ 2.8GHz Dual-Core
Radeon HD 3200
2GB DDR2 800Mhz ram
300w PSU
Windows 7 32bit

I wondered if I could make the ram 4GB and add a 120GB SSD and get rid of the HDD, would be run very smooth again? It used to run REALLY slow even when web browsing. i know gaming will still be bad but moving through basic apps and basic multitasking and web browsing would it be a lot faster and is it worth £80 max to upgrade it?

Thanks :D

I would get 4GB total ram and a Crucial M500 120GB SSD.

Open your task manager. Then do what you normally do that makes it start running slow and look to see if your CPU is maxed out or if the HDD is being maxed out or if our RAM is being maxed out. Whatever is being maxed should be the cause of the computer running slow.

I'm looking now. Do your CPU or RAM get maxed out when it starts running slow?

The CPU is like 20% all time time when moving the mouse, and sometimes has small 100% blips when opening programs etc. The RAM comes up as 1.7GB and usually at least 1.3GB is gone withut doing anything, when I open browser and maybe 2 basic applications it goes to 1.5GB. I think the CU might be getting hot it's 47-50c at idle and has reached 75 on core temp the temperature readigs turn to yellow colour when they go over 50 i have some thermal paste lying around and TIM clean should I replace the thermal paste?
