Internet disconnecting - random

Hi all, my internet randomly keeps disconnecting. I am plugged in via a cable and it seems to be at random and can happen at night when I am not even using it, or during the day when I am doing something. Sometimes it happens 10+ times and sometimes I can go for a week without experiencing it.

Resetting the router fixes this problem but since my router takes 5 minutes to reset, it makes it difficult to really do anything quickly. Its important to note that the wireless continues to work when this happens, all phones/tablets/laptops work as normal, but my computer doesn't. Sometimes when I just leave my computer in a state of no internet, often when I come back hours later its fine again (sometimes, but not always)

I don't think it is my adapter, as when I get the disconnect it says that I am connected to an "Unidentified Network", and unplugging the cable and plugging it back in connects it again to this "Unidentified Network" with no internet access.

I originally thought it was due to a "power management" option on my adapter to turn itself off, but I just recently had a disconnect after disabling this option.

I am at my wits end, I have tried research on the net, but all topics relate to ALL internet getting disconnected, not just the LAN connection. I am so close to just buying a new router, but I have come here in the hopes that my current one can be saved (if it is the router at all)

Please help me

sounds like a problem with the router/connection to the router. i would contact your isp.

comcast is notorious for this problem (not that i know which isp you use.) they have really bad routers and are lazy with line work.

get a technician out there.

When my internet stops working on my desktop pc, all wireless devices continue to run fine.

Neon, thanks for your help but I was wondering if there was anything I can do here? Are there any settings on the router I can change or modify? Or is this purely a technical issue? And it is DEFINITELY the router and not my adapter? I want to make sure I eliminate all other possibilities before calling out a technician who will charge me if there is something wrong on my end.

If it is one device, it is either that adapter or how it connects to the router.
If it is one connection type (wired vs WiFi), then it may well be the router.
If it is all devices (and it appears not), then it is either the router or the ISP
