GA-H81.Amp-UP - Not finding HDD when attempting to install Win7

Hi, as mentioned in the title, I have GA-H81.Amp-UP motherboard, along with an SSD and a mechanical HDD. I can boot Windows Installer okay, but I get an error message that states:

No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.

I have tried putting the disc that came with the motherboard into my optical drive with no luck. I copied the files over to a pen drive, again with no luck. If it matters, I'm booting Win7 (64 bit) off a pen drive.

I've been at it for days and am coming up blank. I checked to make sure I have power and data plugged in to the drives already. If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it, I'm totally stuck.

Is the hard drive coming up in the bios? sometimes it can be as simple as plugging the hard drive into the wrong port. Just don't have the hard drive connected while you install windows 7 because sometimes windows 7 will load the boot sector onto the hard drive and then the os onto the ssd even if you tell it to only write the os to the ssd. If that doesn't work in the bios just give the power cables for the drives and the connectors a good push

Hello fossumkyle,

The problem can be related to various factors. The thumb drive (pen drive) you're using may not be recognized by the motherboard (BIOS) due to a faulty USB port. Or the USB port is good, but it's not properly connected to the motherboard.

Another thing that can cause the problem is not having properly formatted the drive and assign a letter (i.e. C:\) or you may have forgotten to set the drive as the boot drive in the BIOS.

Try the following:
1. Only install one drive, say your HDD
2. Install your optical drive
2a. Make sure everything else is connected properly (i.e. PSU, Ram, Video Card, etc). - but don't connect any other drives (like the SSD and the thumb drive)
3. Turn on your PC
4. While the system is posting/booting up, press "Delete" or "F2" or whichever button to enter the system BIOS
5. Go to the Drives window (in the BIOS) to ensure both, your HDD and Optical Drive have been recognized and properly configured.
6. Ensure that the HDD is set as Primary Drive
7. Now place the Win7 CD in the optical drive and reboot the system
8. The BIOS should recognize the CD and will try to boot from it
9. If the above is true, then continue with the Windows 7 installation process
10. If step 8 is false, then go back into your BIOS and manually set the Optical Drive as your boot drive, then restart the system.

I hope the steps above help you.

If not, just do a Google search for the error message (i.e. search "No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."), I'm sure you'll find lots of possible solutions or forum posts with the same problem you have mentioned here.

Thanks for the response. The hard drive is not coming up in the BIOS, and I have already triple checked that all the SATA cables are plugged in properly.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I can't follow you any farther than step 5, as the HDD is not being recognized by the BIOS

Oh ok, so this is telling us:
1 - the drive is not properly connected to the motherboard (check all the cables, including the power)
1a - if connected correctly you should hear the discs spin.
2 - make sure the drive is connected to SATA 0 (the white one)
3 - then reboot, go back into your BIOS to ensure it's recognized
3a - you may have to manually set the HDD again as primary or boot drive
4 - Also, make sure your Optical drive is connected to SATA 1

Wait, I have another idea, suggestion, if the above steps don't work, meaning the HDD isn't recognized, then repeat the process, but this time around with the SSD (skip the HDD completely).

I just switched the SATA cables (I had HDD in black) and it works like a charm! Thanks for your help!
