AMD or Intel CPU Comparison

I am currently researching for my next gaming build and I have been looking at the AMD FX-8350 CPU, but I am not sure if I should get it. I have heard people talking about the Intel i5 processor but I am not familiar with Intel and would not know what to look for when shopping for Intel processors. A lot of help would be appreciated.

Solution
Most will tell you an i5 is faster than an 8350 which is true, and hyper-threading is extremely useful for gaming. BUT you can overclock the 8350 much better than the 4670K (many hit 5Ghz- of course with adequate cooling), so you can technically say the i5 will run cooler at stock than the 8350. But it goes further than that. If you're going to render & edit, those extra cores from the 8350 do help a bit. If it were only for gaming, get the i5.

Solution
This is the best way to answer this if you can find a fx 8350 for 150 or less its the chip to get but if its the same price or within 20 bucks i5 is the way to go. Mine has given me nothing but great performance. If you do not plan on overclocking dont get the fx 8350.

The FX8350 is OK for the price you pay for it but it is no competition to K series I5's or I7's in gaming! It can compete with multiplier locked I5's but it needs to be overclocked and then you need a good motherboard starting to eat up the price savings.

You really can't screw it up, you have to go "way back" to find a weak Intel CPU. But if you're starting from scratch you would go with the latest socket, LGA 1150. The i5 "to get" would be the 4670K, as it's unlocked. But if you want to save $40 bucks(or so) you can get a 4570 (non K = locked).

The last 3 generations of Intel CPU's(Sand, Ivy and Haswell) and extremely powerful CPU's. They make short work of any task and won't bottleneck powerful GPU's; even in SLI/crossfire.

So if I'm shopping for an i5, what kinds of things should I be looking for?

(This may seem like a stupid question since I am AMD oriented)
Is searching for the GPU and ram and other things the same if I were to search for AMD compatible products?

For a GPU & ram it's usually just a preference of yours. You can mix a 4670k with a 290x or even a GTX 780, all up to you and the features you want that go with each :) As far as ram goes it doesn't matter.... for the most part that is, what I mean by that is simple, a clear example of this would be one of AMD's APU's that takes advantage of an AMD- made ram. (I would love to give you the exact details but my memory has failed- no pun intended!)

Yes basically! Only difference Intel does not like ram that has higher voltage than 1.5 volts but that is sort of a std these days although you come a cross 1.65volt ram.

Thanks rolli59 and what kinds of GPU's would be compatible with this processor?

So there aren't any parameters like for the processor in this computer? Like I would have to get a Radeon 6000 series GPU to be compatible with this APU.

Okay. So I am shopping for mobos with the LGA 1150 socket and it is asking me which cpu type I want and it gives me two options.

4th-generation i5, i7 (LGA1150)
or
Core i7 / i5 / i3 / Pentium / Celeron (LGA1150)

Which one do I choose and how does it affect the outcome?

Well I'm not sure since they are both the same thing. I don't know if it'll make a difference.

I get that. It's just that the two tabs seemed identical and I didn't know which one to click on.

I see it should not affect the outcome at all since there should only be one tab since all those LGA1150 CPU's fit the same boards!

I agree. I'm sorry if I'm frustrating you. But what do you think of this GPU for the processor and this mobo.
