Could you please suggest what is the best option for a Graphic card for i7-3770K processor. I work on 3D projects and Motion Graphics projects on Maya, C4D, Aftereffects and Realflow. Nvidia or ATI no issues. My budget is around 400$. I am looking for lower render time and smoother movements in maya. Would be very thankful for your suggestion

I think I clicked the wrong button by mistake, and gave it the best solution tag. I am unable to undo it. Think I should re-post my question I presume?

I'd recommend either the Gigabyte gtx 770 4GB version ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ) or the MSI Radeon r9 280X 3 GB ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ) considering your budget is about 400$. Both are almost equally good and can run every game at ultra and 60+ fps (except Crysis 3, but then again not many GPUs can) but the gtx 770 has 1 extra Gb of VRAM.

they have the "pitcairn" based amd hd7870 doing very well in the overall test, even besting the much more expensive flagship(at the time) amd "tahiti gpu" hd7970, while the much less expensive "cape verde" hd7750 coming very close both the higher tier video cards. amd has rebranded many of their cards this year, with the pitcairn based r9-270 and r9-270x replacing the hd7870 series. the amd r9-270x can be found for about $220usd while the slightly slower clocked version, the r9-270 can be found for about $180. the hd7750 isn't really around anymore and it hasn't been replaced by the same architecture but newegg does have some still in stock.... though the hd7770(not shown in the benchmark above) is the same architecture as the hd7750, it just has a few more stream processors and a higher core speed so it would be faster than the hg7750 in maya.

in order of price. the msi hd7770 would be the best bang for your buck in this case.

other searches on the internet show that amd's new "hawaii" architecture is only marginally faster than their other video cards in maya. for about $460 you can get a near flagship r9-290, but it doesn't have any dramatic increase over a $80 hd7750, at least in tests for maya.

well then the hd7770 would be about the best you can do with that power supply. the hd7770 needs a 6 pin pcie connector from the power supply so check and make sure it has one. if it doesn't then the hd7750 gets all its power from the pcie16x lane itself so that would work for you. or you could just get a new power supply...

Thank you so much for being kind enough to suggest so much in detail. Just one question on your suggestion, supposing I go for a 850W power supply, would I be able to go for a faster card in the 400$price range that would help get things done faster and smoother? Actually I was planning to go for a workstation with a budget around 1800-2000$, but since I have 4nos of i7s PCs and if I could get what I want with a faster card, then I thought that would be the way to go as I could get all 4 PCs faster to a level and pull on for a year. Not sure if its the right way, but looked good to me.

well ncix has a sweet xfx(seasonic made) gold rated 750w on sale right now....
http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=78946&vpn=P1-750B-B...

after that the highest tier card in your price range would be the r9-290... though again im not sure how much faster its going to be in maya...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

750w would be plenty for both your 3770k and a 290, even if you overclock both of them.

i would be looking around the net for other gpu benchmarks on the programs that your using though. to me if an hd7750 for $90 does the same thing as a $420 290, you know what i mean lol. but you would have a bada$$ gaming rig though with a 290 in there.

but idealy you would want a firepro based off the pitcairn gpu as it seems to be the best bang for buck as far as workstation graphics go.

Nikoli, I just happened to meet this Nvidia guy who's suggesting K-2000. Not sure if its the right suggestion. The price is around 500$. Would you be knowing anything about this card? Will be very thankful for your suggestion on this.

well the quado k series is a workstation video card that can take advantage of instruction sets found in higher end rendering programs and you get full support from NVidia for that program. for some its unnecessary to have a quadro/firepro, especially if you don't own a program that can take advantage of its enhanced instruction sets.

Thank you very much for the input. Sorry for the delayed reply, but as I said in my request, we use Maya, Cinema4D, AfterEffects etc. Presume these are higher end rendering programs, or am I missing your point somewhere? The main purpose of this card is to render out Maya models and animation in the shortest possible time. So with this information, it would be nice to know your view if you think K2000 would be a good buy??

if you are concentrating on those programs i would go with the quadro/firepro then. you should be able to look up benchmarks for those programs. finding the best price to performance ratio card would be your best option.
