Hi Everyone,

I am in a real dilemma here, I have a HDD bay with four slots and each slot can take upto 3TB per drive, so maximum is 12T.

Now the story is, I had two slot with 1TB drives in each one, and the other two are empty, now i needed to add another HDD, so I bought a 2TB of the same make and model as the 1TB which are seasgate barracuda, the only difference is two are 1TB and the other is 2TB.

Now once I installed the new hard drive into the bay, the software manager didnt identify the hard drive and it said the hard drive is "unrealesed", as you would need to format and initialize the hard drive I wasnt particularly worried.

I went to the disk manager on the PC, and it couldnt see the new hard drive only the combination of the two 1TB hard drives, which was odd, then i removed the 2*1TB hard drives and kept the new hard drive in the bay.

The disk manager could see it now, I formatted the HDD and initialized it and its status was online. i went and checked on the manager it still had the unreleased status.

Now I was getting flustered, restarted the bay a couple of times, still no use, and when I plug in the other two hard drives, the new one disappears, not even the disk manager cant see it.

but when the other two are not there it actually comes up in the my computer folder and can use it as normal, but again the manager still says its "unreleased".

Iv tried almost everything in the book, as I am writing this, my last attempt is to back up all the data (here and there and on the 2TB by using a third external HDD which is taking forever) and delete the 2*1TB segment as it seems its a raid and hopefully it will work, though I do have my doubts as it is not reading it when its only the 2tb by itself.

I really hope you can help me.

THanks

Well the problem is I cant remember which type of RAID iv setup, hence why I am backing up all date which is taking over two days, still moving data, and delete any RAID setup and hopefully it will work.

Though my doubts are that if it didnt work when I just plugged in the 2TB by it self then it wont work.

My info on RAID technology isnt that comprehensive, so it could be thats the problem.

Thanks

UPDATE: After a quick read, I believe iv set it up as RAID 0, as the block is not being moved anywhere at any time, so no need for redundancy in my case, just simple storage.
