Hey guys,

So these last few weeks i've decided to upgrade my computer...
I purchased from a local classifieds website a MSI lightning gtx780
(card is 7 months old)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127754

However after the money landed into the sellers account all contact stopped via both email and mobile phone. This lasted around 4 days so I thought I got scammed & decided to buy one from a local store, well early this morning the seller got in contact with me explaining that she has had a death in the family and that she's sorry and posted the item yesterday... so I will now have 2 GTX 780's the MSI lightning and the one i purchased form the store, Gigabyte GTX 780OC

http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4621#ov

The one I purchased from the store was $169 more expensive, what do you guys think I should do?

- Try and return the store bought card (most likely with a 10% restocking fee)

- Try and sell either one on ebay or gumtree

- Keep both and have a kick ass computer :) (Although I would like this option I don't really have enough money to justify it. I also think my cpu
(intel core i7 2600 3.4ghz) will probably bottleneck a SLI set up? and my power supply (corsair tx850) maybe wont supply enough power?

What do you guys think? and what out of the two cards do you think is the better one? if I take it to the store and they want to charge me a $60 restocking fee do you think I should just do that? it would work out cheaper than keeping the store purchased card.

SLI dude, no turning back and you won't have a bottleneck with that CPU (2600), it's an i7 processor and still a pretty good one in today's standards.

if you want to SLI, go for it but you'll need to list your Motherboard and PSU, as they will decide if it is doable or not.

Yeah i will definitely check up on the re stocking fee first thing tomorrow!

The problem with SLI though is atm I only game on 1080p and 3dvision 720p (i use a 3d projector not a 3d ready monitor so its limited to 720p) so one gtx 780 is enough, I mainly upgraded for the dev kit 2 rift which ill be getting but after doing some research it seems there is a problem with micro stuttering when using SLI in the rift.
My psu is a corsair tx850 and my motherboard is asus P8P67pro

I'd SLI, That motherboard will SLI in X8/X8 configuration, best you can get and best performance with that also, You will have a PC great for games to come also. Your PSU can also handle two GTX 780's.

SLI has some micro-stutter and all, but as a whole it isn't that bad, I used to have a 7990 with crossfire, and I can say the difference was huge and the problems that i thought I would encounter, were hardly noticeable if not noticeable at all.

1080p dual GTX 780's will be overkill, yes, but for later on the benefits will be of use.

Haha so much love for SLI!

But yeah I think SLI is probably a bit over kill for me atm! what I might do is check if there is a restock fee if there isn't Ill return it, if there is try and sell it on ebay/gumtree if no luck there I guess I would have no choice but to SLI ;)

Just out of curiosity anyone know which card is better?

SLI is going to really make the system fly and your base configuration can handle it, also you'll pretty well be set for the life of the system so this is one of those very hard calls to make and personal tastes can get involved. Me, I don't like SLI or CF because I feel the downs outweigh the ups so I'd sell/return one.
Look into the restocking fees and conditions, some places are good, others are bad and sometimes it depends on how nice YOU are.
Remember E-bay and PayPal will take a chunk out of any cash generated by selling through them, you may do better through the local small ads (create a special E-mail account for the sale and give that as contact address, saves getting phone calls at all hours).

"Later on" he wouldn't have to stuff around, he can get the benefits of SLI now and get super high FPS.

He might also like to get a new PC "later on" and transfer the cards.

If you can return it do so. there is NO good reason to SLI them.
if you dont need it and dont plan to upgrade the rest of your rig to be able to utilize SLI its just
Wasted money. if you cant return it sell it. a single 780 will last a long time if you just staying at 1080p. (probably already overkill)
the money that you save can always be used later for other upgrades or re-buying another 780 in the future when its on sale and you need it.

Thanks a lot for all the advice guys!
I'm just hoping I can return it tomorrow, I would like to SLI them to future proof my computer as long as I can but I just cant afford it at the moment. Maybe if I had a higher res monitor to game on I could maybe justify but with 1080p and 3dvision 720p I think one GTX780 is enough for now!
