Hello guys, just picked up a 1366 socket, and a i7 975 extreme.
I have some experience overclocking, but that was ivy and sandy brige.

i have been playing around a bit for overclocking this cpu, like true the bclk, and multie.
Now i have it on 4.14ghz and i did run a linx test.
i diddent change the ram speed, so its running at 1066mhz, with 7-7-7-20 timings so thats the next step.
i changed in the bios the speedstep/turbo, and c-states of course, set the vcore manual to 1.325v the pll manual at 1.8 and the rest is on auto.
so my quastion to you is does this looks oke???
And will running at that vcore 24/7 effect the life span of the cpu.

so i hope sombody can help me, try different settings, or just leave it at this.
Any advice is welkom.

Solution
The max voltage for that cpu is 1.375, you're good there. It looks like it's stable and your temps are good. I don't see any problems with your setup. Good overclock.

thx, dont now if this is the lowest vcore i can set, that i have still to test.
and then we see what the mem will do.
the strage thing is with the mem that its 1600mhz according the specs, but if i set at 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 and 1.65v it wont work, it will work at 1600mhz but with 9-9-9-24 timings and the voltage set to auto

no if i leave them on auto, the will be set as 7-7-7-20-59-1t
but the part number of the mem is ocz3p1600lv2g, so it has to be mem on 1600mhz with 7-7-7 timings at 1.65v but that whont work, and mem test is not given my any errors.
setting the mem with a auto voltage at 1600mhz is no problem, but then i have different timings.

You shouldn't be changing the voltage unless you are overclocking the memory. Otherwise, leave it on auto.
If you leave everything set to auto and it runs at 1600MHz, but the timings change to 9-9-9-24, then it is your system changing it to be what it needs it to be. Not all motherboard/cpu combinations can operate the memory at those default timings. The system will change those timings to a compatible speed for your system setup.

oke did that , lets see if this will be stable all the time, will see also mayby i can hit 4.2ghz, but anyway not under air.
in time will upgrade, mayby a compleet new systeem, but still the i7 975 is going strong for a older cpu, so we will see what we do, new cpu, and ofcourse matching mobo and ram, new videocard, or 1 card extra, i have the psu for it.

77 is awfully high. The max. safe temp for your cpu is 67.9c. Anything over that is a killer. You should bring things back down until you can get better cooling otherwise you'll be looking for a new CPU.

no its no problem, the cores whent that high, not the cpu, the cpu stayed under 67,9.
same as amd, package temp end cpu temp.
but i now the mistake i make with the memory.
i was running it before at 7-7-7-20, and that diddent work, but now i set it good and running it at 7-7-7-24
