Solution
Hi

If this this 1.8GHz cpu is a socket 478 version max speed available 3.4GHz
from 2002 (but only second hand parts available nowdays)

If a Socket 423 version no point in proceeding get a new motherboard

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4

use CPU-Z to find out what socket this Pentium 4 is
and motherboard manual for max speed cpu it supports.

Unless hard disk has been replaced it is living on borrowed time so will need replacing but new PATA hard disks are rare nowdays so more expensive than SATA

what AGP version is that motherboard ?
what resolution is screen (is it CRT or LCD) ?
low resolution screen can be driven by lower spec graphics card than modern high resolution screen

This old P 4 is OK for office, internet...

Splendid
Have a look at the motherboard model and google the specifications to see what Pentium 4 processors are compatible with it.
You could possible find it could take a much faster cpu up to 3 GHZ or even more, it all depends on the model of the motherboard. You can find cheap Pentium 4 cpu's on ebay.
Once you have done that look at upgrading the ram and then looking at getting a graphics card, but you need to find out if it is AGP or PCI-E, this matters on the choices available as AGP cards are no longer produced, once again you can find a better second hand graphics card to upgrade from the FX 5200 which is a very weak card.

^for sure his mobo have APG interface instead of PCI-E since all FX5000 series that i know of is AGP based. for the RAM part it could be DDR or SD RAM. i think it is less an hassle to do complete overhaul. just get cheap dual cores and some entry level gpu.
