Can't detect networks on new PC build

Hi, so I built my first PC last night and the motherboard used was a Gigabyte H87-hd3. So I installed Windows 8.1 basic and then installed everything off the motherboards disc. I restarted and I get no connection of course.

So I click to see what it detects and it detects nothing. No networks. I trouble shoot and it keeps telling me to plug in an Ethernet cable. I have wireless in the house so I wouldn't do that plus the router is miles away.

I've checked BIOS and checked everything is installed but nothing works. PC shops shut on good Friday as well so really would appreciate some help :(

Solution
Either a USB (external) or a PCI-E (internal).

USB has the advantage of easy installation and possibly moving it around a little
PCI-E has the advantage of possibly being a little stronger and more antennas.

Either will almost certainly work, dependent on your individual wireless conditions.
When you say "the router is miles away"....how far away do you mean? What is in between? How many rooms?

No I don't have anything like that. I went to Network adapters on my Device Manager and checked my 'Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller' was all up to date which it is.

I feel so stupid managing to build my first PC solo and getting it to post first time round, and yet I have no clue regarding internet!
Would I then have to purchase a WiFi adapter?

Right, it all makes sense! right, one last thing before I depart, would you know off-hand if I need a specific adapter for the mobo that I have? Or can I simply pick up any brand?

The router is in the living room downstairs on the opposite side of the house. I would need well over 15m of ethernet cable.

Thanks a lot for pointing out the obvious solution! I spent 6 hours last night sweating and swearing over my build and finally finished it midnight. Now I'll go buy my adapter (might go for the USB for now) and spend my wages on Steam!

Thanks a lot!
