I was looking forward to start a new build with Z87 and i7 4770K.Since the news of Z97 and Haswell refresh are purported,Is the wait worthwhile?
Of-course not interested in 100Mhz boost, but heard a new way of thermal spreading is implemented between the TIM and IHS.Also just checking on those overclocking credibility speculations due to improved thermals!
Just curious about Haswell and Haswell-refresh being socket 1150 are compatible with both Z87 and Z97?Further,what are the advantages of Z97 over Z87?Just making sure this rig lasts awhile.

My current specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E 7500 Overclcked to 3.64Ghz
Asus P5QPL-AM G41 chipset micro -ATX
4GB DDR2 975Mhz ram CL 6
Zotac GTX 650Ti AMP! Edition 2GB
Monitor-LG W2443T-23 inch 1080P
Corsair TX650 power supply unit.

Things bought for new rig:
NZXT Phantom 530 Full tower Case
Noctua NH-U12P SE2 120mm
will be using same monitor and PSU,I hope:
Any tips regarding this build is appreciated!

The new 9 Series chipset motherboards should mean faster SSD's.

Also, apparently Broadwell CPU's which are expected to arrive early 2015 are supposed to be compatible with 9 Series Chipset-compatible motherboards. Therefore you should be able to switch your CPU to a Broadwell CPU if you want later on.

I would wait if I were you.
However I just bought a Core i7 4770 based machine myself because I couldn't wait :)
I think this CPU will last a long, long time.
Therefore I...

Therefore I don't expect to upgrade to Broadwell anyway.
So getting this pc was fine for me.

Thanks! But What if I bought 4770k and would it run on Z97 boards? And what do you think about 4790's being able to run quite cool compared to 4770 counterparts.Heard a new TIM interface on them!

Currently as mentioned above, the rig I have is enough for most scenarios.Just it wasn't as fast or as experimental that I expect.Otherwise it is doing just fine.

PS: I don't think it will last long though.Tanks for ypur reply

the bigger question i'd have, is Intel being...well, Intel, would the introduction of Broadwell spell an end to the 1150 socket? If you're not looking to run M.2-based SSD in a compact package with one of the refreshed Haswell chips, you might as well just wait for that answer. I'm willing to bet the new Haswell SKUs will work just fine in an 8-series board with an at-worst BIOS update needed. YMMV, your personal values weigh more heavily on your decision than ours do.

Now,as you mentioned about Haswell refresh/es working on Z87;the news of Broadwell compatible with Z97,would open a question.Whether Broadwell will be compatible with Z87?.And I'm clearly not using M2 SSD's,as I have a huge case wanting to be filled in..
