Hey guys,

First of all I'm a first time builder and am stuck in between two set ups I was considering building, below I have listed both of my options, 1st AMD, 2nd Intel, the only differences are the CPU's and motherboards. I would like to have a go at overclocking and i reckon I have picked the right things. Can someone take a look and see what you think and any opinions would be appreciated, I already have storage and a dvd player, the rest is below...

Be honest if they are shite....

AMD SETUP

CPU AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core
CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 ATX AM3+
Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866
Video Card Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB
Case Corsair Graphite Series 230T Grey ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply EVGA 750W ATX12V / EPS12V

INTEL SETUP

CPU Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core
CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP ATX LGA1150
Memory G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866
Video Card Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB
Case Corsair Graphite Series 230T Grey ATX Mid Tower
Power Supply EVGA 750W ATX12V / EPS12V

Any suggestions would be great....

Thanks

Scott

I was faced with the same decision and picked Intel. After looking at several benchmarks, I'm convinced I made the right decision. Fantastic for gaming! Nothing wrong with the FX-8350, but when it comes down to it, right now the i5 is still better for gaming, generally offering higher and more consistent FPS.

All the parts I have selected, do they look OK? all these types of ram and motherboards is confusing, can I overclock with what I've picked. Once its in I'll be fine, need to know i've picked the right stuff

The AMD is a really good setup and will OC very well. The Intel is better if only as the upgrade path to Broadwell is available, vrs fx seeming dead end line.

Either will perform very well in now and future games.

The evga psu is a little overkill unless you plan to x-fire in the future. It is a really good psu otherwise.

Both of the build are solid, choose which one is cheaper, they will perform almost the same. Also on both of the builds i would definitely change the PSU and get something from the brands like : Corsair (avoid CX units), XFX, SeaSonic and Antec in the range of 650w
