hi, i have had my external hard drive for a few years now and for some reason yesterday it just decided to stop working, the light still shows but no longer flashes, but the hard drive itself still makes a noise as though it works, but i just cant access it on my laptop, it doesnt seem to work on another laptop either. Does anyone have any advice? the guys at PC world believe i've broke it and everything is lost (they didnt see it though) tbh im useless with tech but really need to get my data of it! any one got any ideas?
thanks!

PC World are biased in favour of persuading you to buy a new one (because of course they sell such products) so can't be relied upon to give you tips on how to possibly revive it.

Try extracting the drive & buying a third-party hard drive enclosure of it, as the bridge-chip PCB inside the Iomega enclosure may have failed.

Yep, the first thing to do is diagnose the drive in a different enclosure. If it is still inaccessible, and spinning up, then you likely have failing heads with a small chance the PCB(logic Board) is failed.

How did this end up, as I have the same problem?
