Gentlemen and Ladies,

I live in a fairly large old house with stone walls. My PC is at the other end of the house from the router. I realize I will not be able to get ridiculously fast speeds where I am, but it has gotten a little insane at this point. I have the Verizon router and modem 2 in 1 box they gave us, as well as a Linksys router. Neither have gotten above 3 bars on my PC, and in Steam I have never seen download speeds above 2 mb/s. I want something that will give my entire house a longer, stronger signal, but do not know what to buy. I have been looking at the Apple Airport Extreme and maybe a new Linksys router. Any suggestions would be great, and if anyone has any tips on how to help me that would be awesome! Thanks

I feel your pain. I live in a metal frame (read Faraday Cage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage)

I also have a customer who has an old home that is still mostly Lathe and Plaster (chicken wire supports the Plaster)

The way He and I have WiFi coverage is by cabling out to the different parts of the home and placing an Access Point in the coverage areas we need. My home is not to large so I got away with one Access Point in the opposite end of the house. His required cabling out to 4 additional location.

IF you can cable across the basement to the other end of the house, you can then land an Access Point there and even run it PoE. I use Engenius products and have this one in my home and a number of other customers as well... It looks like a Smoke Alarm:
This kit comes with the PoE injector: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833168100
