So I want to start gaming on my custom PC, I'll be playing Borderlands 2, Call of Duty, Diablo III, so fairly hardware intensive games. Here are my hardware specs, I was wondering what I should upgrade and if so what specific model, I don't want to spend a whole lot of money but I want an adequate gaming experience.
Hardware:
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 750K Quad Core Processor
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT(256 MB DDR2 of dedicated video memory)
Storage: WD Blue 1TB HDD
Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A85x-D3H
RAM: 8GB
Power Supply: Thermaltake TR2 500W
Optical Drive: LG Optical DVD Drive GH24NSB0B
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium(64-bit)

Can you provide a budget for this upgrade? "Not a lot of money" can be subjective.

Everything looks good, except for the gpu and power supply. Thermaltake doesn't really make a stellar psu, I recommend if you can get a corsair, seasonic, or xfx psu. But, the Thermaltake will work.

That 8500 GT wont run anything. At all. It is trash. Avoid it like the plague. For gaming the bare minimum is a HD 7770. If you can't afford at least a 7770, don't buy. Save up more money.

The athlon x4 750k will work with gpus up to about a R9 270/GTX 760, you shouldn't really go past that. Getting a AM3+ cpu and motherboard would be a better choice, that is if you can afford it. By the way, what is your total budget? Cheers.

Budget under $300 and yeah I figured the GPU would be a priority, I got that out of an old computer when I did my original build because I was on a budget and wasn't looking to game. Personally I would rather not upgrade the PSU and Motherboard just because I won't see improved performance, I could save up and get a new CPU and GPU although the CPU would need to be FM2. That GTX 750ti looks nice, would that be enough for the games I want to play? Thanks guys!

The Athlon x4 750k is the top of the line cpu on the FM2 socket. So if you must have an FM2 cpu you are already at the max. No need to upgrade there. Since you have a 500 watt psu you can handle the R7 265 for about $160. Sometimes you can get the R7 265 for as low as $150, and it way out performs the 750ti. If your lucky you can get a used R9 270(out performs the R7 265) for $160. Happy gaming!
