Hello. I will be building a my first pc in the next few weeks. I am currently trying to finalize all the components, and I am trying to decide between the AMD FX-6300 or the intel i3 4130. I have read multiple threads stating but that the fx6300 is better, but since that I won't be doing much gaming on the PC, won't the i3 be better? I also am not planning to upgrade for the next 5-6 years. Most importantly, in india, the fx and the i3 both cost the same amount - Rs 8000. I want to try to fit the CPU under 10000(compared to US prices, indian prices are usually 10% higher) thanks in advance!
EDIT: the PC is for light gaming, and some general 3D modeling, etc

I would get the AMD FX-6300. In the US, it's only a little bit more than the FX-4300. A good budget graphics card is the nVidia GTX-750 (or, if you can afford it, the GTX-750ti).

So the amd would be better even thought the i3 is much newer and gives equal performance?
Also, would and r7 260x be overkill for what I will be using the PC for( it costs about the same as the gtx 750 ti)? Or is the gtx 750 ti better than the r7 260x?
Thanks for the quick replies

AMD CPU's are not as good as Intel's. Amd is still pretty good, though, and it's cheaper. Use AMD in a budget build.

The GTX 750ti is a little better than the R7 260X.

I would get the AMD FX-6300, and the GTX-750ti.

How would the new Kaveri APU (7850k) from amd perform as compared to the fx6300 and a gtx 750ti? I am asking because the APU costs the same as the nvidia graphics card ( thus I would save nearly 7000-8000 rs). Would there be a large enough performance difference to warrant getting discrete cards?

Yes, just get the FX-6300 and GTX-750ti. You need an actual graphics card.
