1. When would you usually overclock- when running a demanding game or software? Would it increase FPS?

2. What are the advantages (apart from speeding up the CPU) of overclocking?

3. What can some of the effects of overclocking be on other parts of the system?

4. Might sound dumb but, can you overclock all of the time with enough cooling?

Solution
1) Yes. Yes. (ok - you overclock to get more performance out of your hardware.)
2) Speed and braging rights are about it.
3) More current draw. More stress on items such as capacitors. More heat. Shorter life expectancy of the various components such as fans, MB, CPU, ect.
4) Absolutely you can overclock all the time. Keep the cooling going - and you should not start any fires. The additional stress can (in theory) shorten your hardware life expectancy - but then you were going to upgrade to the latest hardware anyway.

Best advice is to use good solid equipment that is designed to allow for over clocking (solid CPU - solid MB - Solid memory - solid PSU) Tick things up manually in small steps and test on each itteration...

Good luck.
