XFX Radeon HD 7870 overheating problem.

I've had this GPU for a few months now, and it's never given me any problems, but recently I've been seeing weird graphical glitches. after 1-5 hours of playing pretty much any game the screen will go beige with grey lines for about 2 seconds, then back to normal, but afterwards the game will be very slow, and other graphical glitches will start happening, like flickering textures and shadows, spiky textures etc, sometimes the game would just outright freeze up after it happened, the only way to fix it was a reboot. Lately it's been happening more often, so I downloaded RealTemp to check toe GPU temp, and pretty much 10 seconds after starting a game, the temperature will shoot up to over 90*C. I've removed all the dust, added extra fans, and put my PC in a cool place with nothing surrounding it and it's still happening.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, I'm fearing for my GPU's life and I can't afford another one.

Update: When this happened again just now whilst playing D3, I got an error message in the taskbar that said "The display driver has stopped working and has succesfully recovered". Except the screen kept flashing from normal to black every 2 seconds, and I couldn't do anything, the error message just kept repeating.

Sorry to hear that mate, glad you figured out what it was and what you need to do though. That's always the majority of the battle. As far as xfx, ive heard great and bad things about their rma. So best of luck.

Can you RMA the gpu? I used to have two xfx 7870's in crossfire. I have ghz dual addition, which has 2 fans, not sure if thats the same as yours. But i've never had any single temp problem. Cards ran perfect for me, which brings me to quickly think faulty gpu. Otherwise, are you sure drivers are up to date? I'd check there, if those are good, perhaps try an older version. Otherwise id say RMA.

Starting to get BSOD now with "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed".
I guess this GPU is botched, contacted XFX to hopefully RMA it.

Thanks for the assistance.
