When I turn on the power switch the blue light blinks on momentarily as I'm switching it on... but that's it. No icon on my desktop, no power, no blue light. Everything is plugged in and solidly connected. I've never had a problem with a hard drive before.

Solution
If you need the data and don't mind voiding the warranty, then take the drive out and see if it works in a different enclosure or plugged in directly to a SATA port. If it's not accessible then the drive itself is failed and you'll need a professional data recovery lab.

If you don't need the data, then get it replaced under warranty.

Thanks Tyrod... I should add that this is a brand new hard drive. I'm just trying to set it up and getting no power, other than the blue light blinking on.

Probably DOA then, the bridge board on external hard drives is a pretty common point of failure.
Unfortunately, you'll need to get it replaced.

Did you need a replacement? I just got my five and it has exactly the same problem right out of the box. Regards, Thor
