I lost the power supply that came with my External 3TB WD My Book Essential. I tried powering up with different power supplies. Only one fit... but it was 18V instead of the original 12V that comes with it. The lights turned on but the disk didn´t appear in my PC.

After that, every time I plug the disk my computer wont come up. It tries to start for a second and then stops. If it´s already running and I plug the 3TB WD the computer shuts down itself.

I took the disk out of the enclosure connecting it directly to the motherboard via Sata cables and the same happens.

I think I fried something when I tried to get it on with the 18V power.

The information in that disk is very important for me. What do you think it really happened? What can I do?

I´d appreciate any useful advice. Thanks!

You overvolted the controller. If you try directly connecting the drive to another system and the same thing happens, you could try replacing the controller with one from an identical make/model drive and see if you can get it to work. Failing that: you're looking at a couple hundred to a couple thousand for data recovery.
