Just finished my very first pc build yesterday. Just installed CPU-Z to test my memory. Feel i have maybe done something wrong with regards to RAM but don't have the knowledge to troubleshoot. Wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the subject.

Here is my CPU-Z result: http://i.imgur.com/zyzDqF8.jpg

I have 8GB (2x4) of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz

Apologies for the delay in response. I have a Gigabyte Z87X-D3H motherboard. Today i went into the BIOS, found the XMP Profile box and selected profile 1 then rebooted, however my RAM speed stays at 666.5 (1333MHz) in CPU-Z. Underneath the XMP Profile box however, I noticed a setting that said something along the lines of Memory multiply speed and it was set to 13.33x and had a host of options from 8 up to 24.

Would it be a case of me having to set that manually to 16x to get my desired 1600MHz clock speed?

your owners manual download:

http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4518&dl=1#manual

make sure your memory is on slots 1 and 3; or 2 and 4.

so looking at your manual you need to go to the MIT tab then enable the XMP profile , you should also see 2 profile settings: 1 and 2.

when you change that profile to one you should see a jump in those multipliers.

all of the manual settings are if you wanted to tackle overclocking your RAM, which is allot of fun and increases sythetic benchmarks but has little real world effects (especially in gaming).

getting your RAM to 1600Mhz is important because it does have a worthwhile effect.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Yeah i got my RAM working in Dual Channel. The mobo manuals picture was quite confusing, it said Channel A: DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 , Channel B: DDR3_2 and DDR3_4 so I wrongly picked one of these combinations and put them it. I have now got my two sticks in DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 as advised and it is correctly showing as running in dual channel in CPU-Z.

The reason I rebumped this thread is because like you, I had a look at the mobo manual for the BIOS screen advice, however when i go into the BIOS, it looks significantly different than pictured in the manual.

Like i replied to the person above, if i enable profile 1, it does not seem to get me running at 1600MHz still 1333MHz. I think this is due to the setting underneath the XMP Profile box which says "XMP Profile Memory Multiplier Speed 13.33x. I can manually change to anything from 8x to 24x.

I am fairly sure if I was to go back into BIOS, set it to 16x manually then reboot I would see my 1600MHz speeds in CPU-Z, however since I have zero experience with things like this beforehand, I was just looking for some advice on if this is safe enough to do. Last thing I want is to somehow fry my RAM by being careless and fiddling with settings.

what does your speed tab say that your ram is set to run at in cpu-z.

you
can click Classic Setup under the Shortcuts list on the right of the screen or press <F2> to switch to the
traditional BIOS Setup screen.

sorry for the formatting it is pulled from the manual. I asume that you are in the windows mode and I am referencing the clasic mode.
