Hi all,

So I am getting ready to order some new hard drives to store movies, TV Shows, Documents, EXE Files etc.
So here is what I would like to do, I would like 2 4TB hard drives in used as 1 drive in my computer at work as well as my computer at home, the problem I am going to have is how can I keep these drives synced between 2 locations so far away? So then I was thinking of getting a NAS but im a little worried my internet my wont be fast enough to stream my 3D movies from home to work.

Download Speed - 6.13Mbps
Upload Speed - 0.29Mbps

P.S this IS the fastest internet I can get here until 2020 then the national broadband network gets here.

So I am looking for ANY ideas that you think will help me here.

Thanks all

With that slow of a connection, you will not be happy with the performance of keeping 4TB of files synced up.

Especially with that upload speed of 1/3 of a Mb.

You can get a higher-end NAS with RAID which will allow you to connect several large hard drives as one big volume. Keep in mind that the setup will make drive failure an issue unless you use RAID 5 but that needs at least 3 drives.

You may not need to have things synced actually, if you get a personal cloud storage drive, you can connect your NAS drive to the internet and...
Your upload speed is too slow for streaming movies. You can use a cloud storage service to keep the data in, but you'll have to pay for the service to keep large amounts of data there.

Once you get faster internet with at least a few MB of upload speed, you can connect to the NAS once you set it up for external access and get to your files. Will be pretty slow to keep things synched up though, you'll have to be constantly running things. Also keep in mind that corporate network people are always monitoring network traffic, they may come by to have a word with you about security with copying files back and forth between home and work computers.

You may not need to have things synced actually, if you get a personal cloud storage drive, you can connect your NAS drive to the internet and access it from work. The download speed is enough to stream an HD movie, as long as your home upload speed will match it, if that is the .29Mbps one, it won't be. Then you will need either 2 NAS drives you sync on the local network or one that you carry back and forth. Or just deal with slow updates if changes are made.
